The Black History, That Was Long Overdue! We're Still Overcoming!

This Martin Luther King day I had a chance to make black history in America once again.  However, this wasn't the type of black history I usually care to make.  This past MLK day history was made in Chatham, Virginia.  It was cold day, with a warm purpose.  That afternoon, African-Americans and White Americans gathered to celebrate the life and dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Even though many across America celebrated the dream, or just got a free day off work history was still in the making.  This was the first time in the church I was speaking at that both African Americans and White Americans gathered under the churches roof.  This is even more impressive since the church was established since 1890!

I live my life daily and conduct work at City Capital to help make our communities, and families better.  I fight for economic and social justice using corporate tactics, backed by private investment money.  However the same struggles, and issues my ancestors, grandparents and parents fought are still alive today.  I would think in 2008 that we would be further as a country, but as we have all seen from recent events like Don Imus, Tiger Woods and the Noose, Jenna 6, and a number of other national issues WE as a human race still have a long way to go!

As you continue over the next weeks celebrating dream of Dr. King in January, and the heroes of Black America in the month of February, just remember for what these people believed in so much that they sacrificed their lives for.  It's the sacrifice for the greater good that moves me to take advantage of every opportunity afforded to me.  The same sacrifice that allowed me to become a CEO of a publicly traded company, the same sacrifice that allowed me to write a bestselling book, it's that sacrifice that allows me the life I live today.  However the bill is still not fully paid, and now it's up to my generation to continue on and make it right.

I challenge all of us to remember, but heal in the process.

God Bless!
